Friday, August the 4th, 2017 was a bittersweet day for my family and myself. It was a day we laid to rest our "Pa" after a long and successful life.
At 95 years of age, Ted had accomplished so much; from marrying the love of his life, fighting for his country & running a successful business; but as he would often say, his biggest accomplishment and what he was most proud of, was his family.
Like many of us, Pa wasn't too keen on having his portrait taken; an aversion you kind of have to overcome with a professional photographer as your granddaughter-in-law. I often had my camera on hand at our important family milestones and one day, when my niece's baptism ceremony had just ended, I quickly turned around in my seat and took a portrait of Pa.
This portrait turned out to be one of the favourite images of Pa I owned. In fact, as it hung proudly on our wall at home, a lot of family members who saw it, felt the same. The thing was -it wasn't even the best image in terms of composition but no one was looking at that. It was a real moment of pure emotion. It was Pa.
I find it very hard to put into words the honour I feel, that this image featured throughout his funeral service. As I looked at this framed print of Pa, placed on his coffin, I was instantly taken back to the moment I captured it; I could still hear him laughing at me and remember the thoughts and feelings of love I had for him in that exact moment.
Not only that - I felt like he was looking at me - because, after all, when I had taken his portrait all those years ago, he WAS looking at me- and that print was then sitting on his coffin for his loved ones to see.
It was a powerful moment for me; what I do is truly important.
Over the next day, I was again reminded of the importance of tangible prints, as Pa's old photo albums came out for the family to see, touch, laugh and reminisce over.
Something happens to us when we see prints of our families. We well up with pride and want to show people; we travel back in time and can see and feel details long forgotten; we are reminded of what matters and how time moves too quickly, and to treasure the moments we have today.
Family isn’t an important thing; it’s everything – so let’s document yours!

I first met Jordan & Tim for a pre consult in early March, 2015, where they booked in their 2016 wedding. We got along instantly & chatted easily for some time. When I shot their engagement session, the way they looked at eachother & nailed the poses simultaneously, made me so excited about their wedding for I knew they would be amazing- which of course they were!
Fast forward to June this year & there we were, meeting up again for their planning consultation for their newborn baby Eddie. (Who so rudely spent the entire consultation asleep so as to not let me have cuddles haha) I couldn't wait to capture this next important milestone in their lives & feel so honoured they chose to return to me for this special time.
The relaxed portrait session was nothing short of amazing. It was a beautiful Mildura Winter evening- the sun was streaming into my lens, creating a beautiful warmth which just added to the look of love they have for eachother and their precious new baby.
Oh, and it certainly doesn't hurt when you have model worthy clients haha
Tim's parents joined us for some beautiful generation shots, which will be perfect additions to any album!
Master Eddie was a little champ, we kept him rugged up in wraps and blankets for the majority of the session, we paused for a feed and he didn't complain once the entire session!
I am so in love with these Outdoor Portraits! It was soo hard to choose which ones to share with you, but here's some of my favs.
It's always a privilege to be asked to photograph a family session. These are the photographs you will look back on in 20, 30 year's time. They are the photographs your children will be sure to take with them as they leave the nest, the photos they will show their own children. I can never really express how much I love what I do and how important my job really is.
I actually contacted Sarah a few months back, interested in having my own maternity photography session in her studio. After a few emails back and forth, we decided we'd seize the opportunity to get some up to date family photographs for Sarah & I get some personal maternity photographs for myself.
Now, those who know me know I am not the most patient person in the world, but I surprised myself with how well I waited for my session! I was 35 weeks when we did my session & a week later we ventured outside for Sarah's family session.
Sarah has 3 beautiful girls- two of which haven't been too keen recently to be in front of the camera so I knew I had my work cut out for me. On the day, the youngest, Miss S, was not keen at all & it wasn't until after the session, that night we figured out the cause which was a tummy bug. Despite Miss S not feeling 100%, we still got some lovely family moments!

Jason & Sarah's wedding took place at the D'Vine Shed in Mildura on a 42 degree March day & boy it was HOT! Not that you could tell from these photos, Jason & Sarah didn't even seem to notice!
The bride walked down the aisle with her father & looked absolutely breathtaking in her ivory Raffaele Ciuca Gown. It was quite a family affair with Sarah & Jason's daughter as one of their flower girls & their boxer as ringbearer.
It was an absolute pleasure to photograph these two & their wedding party. They were absolute naturals in front of the camera which made my job that little bit easier.
Thank you both for allowing me to be your wedding photographer! I loved your day & loved what we have captured! :)
Although it's not for everyone, I believe it's such a privilege & honour to witness a birth. To be in the room when a baby takes his first breathe, her first cry. It's beyond amazing! I was lucky enough to be there for Miss Ruby's birth last week in Mildura, her mum's first labour was a quick one so we were half expecting this one to be similar but it turned out a bit longer than we thought (although still not a slow labour in my books!)
I feel like a woman's birth space is rather sacred, so I do not talk unless spoken to (which is usually never during a contraction), however, I was amazed that Charley was able to talk & even laugh during her contractions. I was absolutely in awe of Charley as she just seemed to accept her labour pain & cope amazingly without any pain relief throughout the entire process.
I am finding it hard to choose a favourite image from this birth photography session. I love the shot of Ruby clinging onto dad's finger as well as some of the detail shots of Ruby's labour.
Charley & Jarrod, thank you so much for allowing me the complete honour of being in your birth space & photographing some amazing memories for you!
Steph is due with her baby boy 2 days after I am due with my little girl. I gotta say, she's a much better model than I am!! haha! (I guess that's a good thing I stay behind the camera!)
Steph's hair and makeup were done by the very talented Tianne Harris from Lou Lou's. (Read our interview HERE)
All three maternity gowns Steph wore during her session were from Pips Photo Props. Pip is such a pleasure to do business with & I love that she is always trying to design unique gowns for photographers like myself!
Interview with Hair & Make-Up Artist Tianne Harris
To expand my photography business, I began searching for a hair and makeup artist who could work together with me to create a boutique experience for my clients.
It didn't take too long before the recommendations came rolling in for Tianne Harris from Lou Lou's.
Tianne loved the idea of joining forces! Of course, I have just started maternity leave, but nothing will really stop me when I have an idea. Tianne worked her magic on pregnant mum Steph in my recent session as a trial run for how we would compliment each other. You can see for yourself , but I reckon we nailed it!
I interviewed Tianne yesterday and found out some fabulous tips for this coming winter and her favourite beauty products.
