6 Reasons why my newborn photography sessions are now held outdoor instead of in studio. | Mildura Newborn and Family Photographer
As I was sipping my coffee from Nash Lane for my Tuesday morning ritual, I had a lightbulb moment.
I was thinking about photography & my business, as I often do, of course. I thought about future sessions & what direction I wanted to head in, in regards to newborn sessions.
I knew that I loved capturing newborns. Their little wrinkles, long lashes & chubby cheeks make me goo and gaa for days. I felt so honoured to be able to see and snuggle brand new babies, sometimes before the most important people in the family's life had even met them.
Here are the main reasons I now only accept outdoor newborn sessions:
An element was missing.
Nature. Purity. I guess it made sense -after all, my business name is Purely Taken. My Art and imagery needs to reflect my passions, my soul
It looks amazing on your wall.
I want to create those perfect family portraits of you with your new squish in the most beautiful backdrop there is. - Pure nature! Why would I want to shoot onto a plain backdrop when I have miles of gorgeous sunlit backdrops available.
I know I would much rather have my portrait taken with space and fresh air instead of feeling cramped & awkward in a studio. I have found dad's especially LOVE the idea of going outdoors for their portraits.
I can still offer Newborn Props.
When I first thought about it, I had very black and white thinking. "I would need to choose between continuing to offer styled newborn sessions, or sell all my amazing props and shoot outdoor lifestyle imagery instead." Thankfully though, I realised I can have the best of both worlds! When shooting outdoors, I can make it more relaxed, more fun and a lot more creative AND you can have a touch of lifestyle portraiture whilst bub is wrapped in a gorgeous rayon wrap & matching headband!
I want to give my clients the BEST!
Newborn Sessions In-Studio would usually take 4hrs. This was purely shooting/feeding time so didn't include setting up and packing away. By the time the last of the blankets were hung out to dry, the day was over. By moving outside and focusing less on blankets and props, I have more time to give you- not only during our portraits, but prior to and after.
Cleaning my entire house
Ok, maybe this was one of the perks- it actually forced me to make my house presentable. haha. But in all seriousness, I would spend hours prepping the house in case someone went outside/in the kitchen/bathroom/toilet. I don't know about you but with 3 kids, a spotless house doesn't really exist.
